Bargaining Update: Non-Monetary Proposals
Workload
Ensure that our workload is measured (quantified) and recorded fairly and accurately, for all faculty: professors, instructors, counsellors, and librarians.
Partial-Load
Almost 50% of faculty are partial-load (contract) status. Ensure we are equitably recognized for our work, and improve job security for all precarious workers.
Coordinators
Program Coordinators are faculty who provide academic leadership to students and faculty. We are experts of our programs and students. Stop outsourcing our work!
Equity
Equity is the center of all of our proposals, and as so, deserves its own proposal. Ensure all members are treated equitably, and have equitable access to holidays, vacation, benefits, compensation, leaves, and union participation. We also need stronger language to prevent bullying, harassment, racism, and discrimination in the workplace.
Staffing, Job Security, and Lay-off
A strong college system requires a stable workforce. We need more permanent full-time positions, and increased job security for contact faculty. Stable employment ensures our diverse student population and communities are supported.
Union Business and Representation
The collective agreement language on union business has virtually been unchanged since 1975, a time when most faculty were full-time. But our workplaces have changed; colleges have grown, and so have our needs. The language needs to be updated to ensure equitable access to union participation for all members, and to strengthen language for union representation.
Academic Freedom, Intellectual Property, and Collegial Governance
Faculty are experts in their discipline and leaders in the classroom. Recognize and respect our expertise, our ability to provide academic leadership, and to lead in collegial decision-making. Shared governance allows colleges to balance educational goals with budgetary ones, safeguarding academic quality, innovation and student support.
