ABOUT US
OPSEU
Beginnings
OPSEU’s origin goes back to 1911 when the Civil Service Association of Ontario (CSAO) was formed. In 1971 faculty voted to join the CSAO, which was later renamed the Ontario Public Service Employees Union (OPSEU).
CAAT-Academic
Local 558 is a member of the Colleges of Applied Arts & Technology-Academic Division (CAAT-A) which consists of full-time and partial-load professors, instructors, counsellors, and librarians.
The Divisional Executive (DivEx) is the governing body for OPSEU CAAT-A. The DivEx manages the Division to ensure that committees and Locals operate within the constitution, bylaws and decisions of the Division and OPSEU. View/Download the Constitution here (PDF).
Delgates from all locals attend the yearly convention (the union’s highest ranking authority), where they debate and vote on policy and constitutional motions.

The Local Executive Committee
Local 558 represents approximately 400 counselors, faculty and librarians at Centennial College. The stewards and officers of the Local comprise the Local Executive Committee (LEC). Officers are also stewards.
Stewards serve for a two-year period and may be re-elected as per Article 12 of OPSEU’s constitution. Officers are elected by members at the Annual General Membership Meeting. LEC members also participate in a number of provincial, college and union committees.
